OCD tendencies

I read something that has SERIOUSLY bothered me all week. Lysa has a organizational swap going on and I like to click on random people's posts and laugh at their messes. Occasionally I leave a comment with some encouraging words or ideas, but the real reason I like it is because it makes me feel like I'm a little bit organized. If I had time to be OCD, I would. I really like things to be clean and in their place. I really like buckets and baskets and containers. I try to remember that loving the people I live with is more important than my desire for organization. Someday when I'm retired, I'm going to completely give in and let my OCD come out in full force. What does that stand for again? ... o.... compulsive disorder...

Anyway, I happened to click on someone's blog which was titled, "An Uncluttered Life". I guess the title says it all....She posted saying that she was really challenged to find an area in her home or life that needed some organization. She loves to be organized, blah, blah, and the best she could come up with was that her stroller and her trunk are not perfect. She also admitted that she has a nanny 5 days a week to clean and care for her child. AHA! Now we're getting somewhere!

I don't know why it bothered me so much, and I'm hoping that writing about it will help me get over her perfect little life and nanny.

I do have a question, but I don't want anyone to hate me for asking it. How often do you clean your kitchen? I could seriously clean it 8 times a day. I don't mean crazy cleaning, but just a 5 minute pick up of dirty dishes and dirty counters. I like a clean kitchen, but I alternate between picking it up every time I pass through (which makes me feel like I've been cleaning all day), or forcing myself to clean up only after the main meals (which makes me feel like it's dirty all the time). So, what do normal people do? Please share.....I want to be normal too!

Em, in the interest of "organizing" that sort of "challenge", it goes with in the bin labeled "THINGS YOU SHOULD KEEP TO YOURSELF".
:)
I hate a dirty kitchen, too. However, I probably only straighten up an average of 2 or 3 times a day. The rest of the time I just wish someone else would do it! And when the dishwasher needs to be emptied... that makes me put it off, especially during nap time! I'm not good at quietly putting away dishes!

Ha, you are so funny, unfortunally this "organized trait " of yours did not get passed on to me your younger sister. I find myself to be on the OPPOSITE end of the OCD cleaniliness factor, I would love to feel the urge to clean, over and over.....DARN.

Not to worry about any of that honey! Do you want your kids to say that they were raised in a completely organized home with nothing out of place that looked like a museum *and* by a nanny 5 days a week? OR do you want them to say they grew up in a home where their "messes" were miracles and their mom was a super woman? You are a champ!! Sometimes dishes are in the sink and that's a-ok.. I grew up with a poem in our house that said:

I hope my children will look back on today
And see a mother who had time to play.
There will be years for cleaning and cooking
But children grow up while we're not looking.
Dusting and scrubbing can wait 'till tomorrow
For babies grow fast we learn to our sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs and dust go to sleep
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.

Since having our little girl I definately have found it more of a challenge to find the time to do all of the cleaning we used to do.

Now we just tackle the cleaning by breaking it up throughout the week - 1 or 2 tasks a day.

As far as the kitchen goes, we always wipe down bench tops after every meal (including morning and afternoon tea's). We also deal with dishes, glasses etc as we go. For me, I feel like it is more manageable to do it as we go instead of finding the time to deal with a bigger mess at the end of a day.

But, I guess you just do whaterver works for you and your family.

I'm probably not normal so I won't bother to tell you how often I clean. Feels like all the time...
I think it is pretty clean, but the clutter I have to stay on top of or it will completely take over. What Blog? Show me so I can laugh!
How about "Occasional Compulsive Disorder"? Would that be okay if it was just every once in awhile? ;-)
