Little Moments at the Hairdressers

It had to be done.
It had been put off long enough.
I made an appointment for Joshua's hair to be cut.

Am I the only mother who dreads taking her kids out in public alone? It's much harder than it looks and this story proves my point.

I picked the kids up from the sitters and went straight to the hair dressers. We were running about 3 minutes late, which I consider basically on time. The three of us walked quickly into the shop and I attempted to keep the kids corralled in the lobby while waiting for someone to appear. After about 7 minutes, a HORRIBLE alarm started with flashing lights and all. I actually screamed, because it scared me so badly.

Turns out that while I was chasing Kaylee down the hall, Joshua found the fire alarm and pulled it. I was burning with embarrassment. There was a flurry of commotion and I heard "A little kid pulled it" mentioned more than once. I waited around thinking SURELY someone will flip a switch and turn the alarm off, right? I'll say "I'm so sorry", they'll cut his hair and we'll go home.

Nope. Apparently it doesn't work that way. After 5 minutes the hairdresser had not made an appearance and the alarm was still going. I left very quickly with the kids to the car. I bet they are adding a note to our customer information:

Trager kid: pulled the alarm.

I can never go back now. I guess this is just another of those little moments in life. It might be funny, but I'm not laughing yet. When we got home I told Joshua to go up to his bed for a nap. He whined, "But I don't want to!" I replied, "Well, I didn't want you to pull the alarm either but you did." There's nothing like getting the last word in against a 3 year old.

Guess we'll be looking at this hair style for a while longer.

I am so sorry but I did laugh out loud while reading this. I can just see Gia doing the same thing! Take him to a different place next time, you will recover!

Oh no! I would have been mortified as well. Why do they put those things so low that a little kid can pull them??? I bet it is not the first time that it has happened to them!

Oh my gosh! How embarrassing! My son embarrassed me one time by pulling a temper tantrum in a bookstore. I had to drag him out to the car. What we mothers go through sometimes!

Oh Amy! I am sorry, but this is the funniest story I've heard in a long time!! I know you must have been mortified but I still can't stop laughing! Love ya, A. Cathy

Oh, I am howling with laughter.

This is why I buzz my baby boy's hair at home!! I only had his hair cut professionally once for his very first hair cut, after that, I just buzz his hair away with him sitting on his Daddy's lap.

Oh my goodness...I feel for you! I get anxiety attacks taking the boys to get their hair cut. I never know if they will sit quietly or scream. And my older son was cut by the clippers once so badly that he bled for about 15 minutes afterwards (no, we don't take him to that stylist anymore). But I have to agree with Colleen; why in the world would they put an alarm where little kids could reach it??? That's their bad (as my students would say).

It is hard taking kids out in public. I don't know why all those other moms I see make it look so easy. My Poor baby girl goes nowhere because I hate to take all three out. At least he didn't cut his hair on his own like mine just did. The outcome looks much worse.

Haahahaa!! You are so funny! And, well...the story is so funny! I need to read your blog more often, but then I feel somewhat UNaccomplised! You do all this with TWO kids! Please girl, I need to take a tutorial from you on time/life management.
