Roadkill mirror
I found this *HUGE* mirror on the side of the road when I was driving kids to pre-school. Once the car was empty, I drove past it again to check it out. Solid wood, huge mirror, cute details. I grabbed it and wrangled it into the car.
At first, I was hoping to paint it white and keep the mirror intact. However, it wasn't in good shape. The mirror was old and the shiny part was flaking off. So I thought about it for a few days.
I decided to turn it into a huge black board. Did you know that chalkboard paint comes in a spray paint? For real! $4!
It hangs in our hallway with messages like "Happy Fall", or the schedule for Brian while I was out of town. The kids play tic-tac-toe and make silly people on the bottom when they are lucky enough to find a piece of chalk.
