Socks and Pennies

I had a request for more pictures of dirt on my floor. I'm glad that someone enjoyed the filth that I see on a regular basis. So, to honor that request, here are two similar pictures. The socks are clean, but they are the ones that come out of the dryer without a match. I stick them in a basket until I am desperately low on socks. Then I match them all up. I got 18 pairs out of this pile! And about 8 singles went back into the basket. I should keep track of which ones go back in the basket time after time so I'm not holding onto widowed socks.

I heard a great idea about pinning dirty socks together before throwing them in the wash. That is very logical, but somehow I can't see myself EVER doing that. What's your sock situation? Am I the only one out there who has a basket full of 50 odd socks?

This is a picture of the most fun/annoying situation I've picked up today. I left Joshua alone for 2 minutes and this is what he did. A deck of heart shaped cards and the change bowl were tossed all over my room. "That's messy! That's messy!", he told me when I walked into the room. I had to sequester Kaylee while I picked all those little coins up. She's faster than I think these days...

When our socks come off we (try to) roll them up - just as if you would with a clean pair - before tossing them into the laundry. The kids can do this too. Then, when it's time to actually load the machine, I unroll (is that a word?)them just before I put them inside the washing machine.

I still have a bag with unmatching socks as the roll-them-up technique has not yet become an automatism.

Widow socks could be turned into sock monsters during the coming summer holiday!

I'm so glad I found you, Amy Jo. Love the mirror from a few posts down. It looks great! I was a Flybaby a year or so ago...thanks for the reminder to check out Flylady again. I should be wearing shoes more often in this house of mine.

I look forward to reading more.

I also have a little basket of single socks. Every once in awhile (and only when we are completely out of clean socks) I will go try to match some up out of there. My little boy had a hole in one of his socks so my husband threw both of the pair away in the trash. I almost freaked out. Why both of them? I know of people that pin their socks, but there are just too many to keep up with and who wants all those little pins everywhere with little kids around? Oh well, I'll just keep my missing sock bin and hope for the best.
