While shopping at Savers Thrift store, my girlfriend found this sweater and threw it into my pile. She knows I like ruffles. I didn’t even try it on, not the best idea, as it made me look pregnant.
From the front it was “ok”, but not so much from the side. See? It’s exactly where I’d want the waist line to fall if I wanted to show off a cute baby belly. But I’m trying to CAMOUFLAUGE that area, not highlight it.
I cut off 6 inches from the length of the sweater right under the bust, keeping the original hem line. Then I randomly sewed strips of fabric across the front. Now the hem of the sweater falls at my hips which is more flattering. The ruffles and strips both add texture and interest. It doesn’t scream “maternity” any more, just “what’s all over your sweater”.
I haven't worn it out in public yet….which is the true test for if I’ve done a good job refashioning something. But… my mom says she likes it and she’s my fan club.
