Just me

Today I turn 30 years old. Here's my 30 year portrait (taken by my personal photographer, Brian). I managed to crimp my hair and put some make up on for your viewing pleasure.

As I reflect on where I am and who I am today, I realize that I've already hit the big milestones of life.

I can drive. (age 16)
I graduated high school (age 17)
I can vote. (age 18)
I graduated college (age 19)
I got married (age 22)
I've had babies (age 25 and 28)

I feel like I'm past the big questions of what to do with my life....and I'm just coasting. It's admittedly not a bad place to be. There's nothing huge on the frontier, no big decision looming around the corner.

Ten years ago, as I was finishing up college, we were encouraged to write down some professional goals for ourselves. A five year goal was easy: I wanted to work full time as an interpreter and get my certifications. My ten year goal was something like this: to be married, have kids and still interpret a little bit.

I'm sure I didn't turn that in to the teacher, but in my heart I knew that I wanted a family more than I wanted a fabulous career. It is with amazement that I look back on the past 10 years and realize those aren't goals anymore. That's my life. When I contemplate my life as a whole, (opposed to details like back pain, dirty diapers and crusty kitchen floors) it is obvious that I have been blessed. I have all I've waited for and I could not ask for more.

If' you've been reading for a while but haven't ever left a note, here's your opportunity to give me a birthday present! Dare I ask for 30 comments for my 30th birthday? While you're at it, please comment on which picture should I pick to replace my profile photo.
