Mis-Slip

One of my favorite blogs is The Nester. She write about how to do "mistreatments" in your home. I'll admit that it took me at least 3 visits to her site to understand what the heck she was talking about. Basically, she is all about making things beautiful, not perfect by way of tacking things up and gluing them together. She's a little glue gun happy, but hey, my glue gun has seen a lot more action than, oh say...the crock pot.

My new house included all window treatments, and they are much nicer than anything I would have bought or made myself. I totally lucked out.

The other day, I realized that I could apply the Nester's principle of mistreatment to a chair that I wanted to re-do. Here's a picture of the totally lousy slip cover I made a year ago.

I spent so much time shaping the cushion and making a cover to fit the custom size. When all was said and done, I wasted HOURS and was very unhappy with how it turned out. The stripes were crooked, the cover was too tight and pulled along the edges. I've never been so unhappy with a project. But I used it for months in Joshua's bedroom.

When we moved, that chair ended up in Kaylee's room for a while and I covered it up with some fabric that I liked. I told myself that I would get around to making a new and improved cover that fit correctly. Guess what? For 4 months I didn't do it. I was chicken. I didn't want to spend my time working on a slipcover.

Then 2 weeks ago, I decided moved things around and that chair is now in my bedroom corner.

I covered the cushions with a blanket that was just hanging around the house. I thought about cutting it and sewing it a little bit. But when I realized I could just tuck it in and let the extra hang out the back, I decided to leave it alone. I call it the Mis-Slip. (instead of a slip cover...get it?) I added that cute little red flower to my pillow and it makes me happy. The best part is that if I move the chair to another room I can easily change the look. No serious commitment, folks.

Very nice! What a great idea! I have a similar chair and I'm really not fond of the cushions. It never occured to me to just cover them this way. Thanks!

That is so rewarding! Great job! Less time, less work, and it looks better! Great idea, girl!
